Range Regulations & Safety Rules

The following rules apply to ALL members AND casual shooters
  1. Everybody attending the range for whatever reason must sign the Central Shooters Inc (CSI) Range Register. Club members should also sign their own card
  2. You may be asked to produce your firearms licence or some other form of ID. CSI members should wear their ID card
  3. A Pistol New Zealand (PNZ) qualified Range Officer (RO) must be in control of the range when pistols are in use. A licensed firearms holder must be elected to be in control of the range when only rifles are in use
  4. Unlicensed and or un-endorsed shooters may only shoot under the direct supervision of a suitably qualified person as defined by the RO in control of the range
  5. ALL shooters AND visitors must obey the RO’s commands
  6. Guns must be carried onto or from the range in a bag or case. Pistols must be carried in a LOCKED case of stout construction
  7. Guns may only be placed on the shooting bench or cleared off the bench with the RO’s permission
  8. ALL guns placed on the shooting bench, “MUST” have a breach safety flag inserted.
  9. Guns and magazines may not be loaded until the RO has called “LOAD”. Firing may commence when the RO has called “START”. At all times, the gun shall point down range in the direction of the target
  10. Guns and magazines shall be unloaded and shown to be clear before a shooter steps back from the shooting bench, or when the RO calls “STOP-UNLOAD”. The RO shall personally check all guns are clear before calling for the targets to be returned
  11. Guns, ammunition and magazines may not be handled at all, when the targets are returned to the patching position immediately in front of the shooting bench
  12. The internal door to the range must be locked when shooting is in progress. Entry and exit to the range is only permitted when targets are returned to the patching position
  13. Fan ventilation must be turned on while shooting is in progress
  14. ALL shooters AND visitors must wear ear muff (grade 3 or higher) when shooting is in progress
  15. ALL shooters must wear closed toe footwear. i.e no sandals or jandals
  16. ALL pistol shooters must wear shooting/safety glasses whilst shooting. It is also recommended for rifle shooters
  17. ALL new shooters are required to have had a safety briefing on range safety and safe handling of rifles and pistols. Casual shooters will be expected to demonstrate proficiency and safe handling techniques with rifles before being allowed to shoot pistols
  18. Cell phones must be "TURNED OFF" (including vibrate) before entering the shooting range
  19. No alcohol is permitted on the range. You will be refused permission to shoot if you appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  20. No smoking anywhere inside the building
  21. Please notify a committee member within 24 hours of any damage or breakage of equipment
  22. Targets may only be engaged at 25m, and multiple targets can be engaged from shooting position 3 or 8. Thus position 3 may engage 1-5 and position 8 may engage target 6-10
  23. The CSI range is certified to allow target shooting of pistols in these calibres only (lead or jacketed)

    .22 short & long rimfire
    .32
    .38
    9mm
    10mm
    40 Smith & Wesson
    45 ACP
     
    Any magnum rounds are prohibited

  24. Rifle calibres

    .22 LR rim-fire
    .22 magnum
    .17 HR2
    .17 HMR (not .17 Remington)
     
    Carbine rifles are prohibited.

    Centre-fire rifle calibres are prohibited.

    Shotguns are prohibited.

    Black powder firearms of any type are prohibited.

    If in doubt, ASK!. Anyone caught shooting calibres/guns that are not on this list, will be banned permanently

  25. Please pick up all brass, patch targets and leave the range in a clean and tidy condition
These regulations and rules are in place to provide for the safety and enjoyment of all CSI range users. Violation of these regulations and rules may result in the eviction from the CSI range and or suspension of your membership
